Nursing Students Volunteer to Fight Flu Season in Orange County

In 2012, Stanbridge College REACH continued its partnership with the County of Orange Health Agency at its Point of Dispensing (POD) program. At the event, Stanbridge nursing students assisted in providing the public with free flu shot vaccinations for over 200 people. The program is part of the Orange County Health Agency’s 2012 Public Health Preparedness Summit. The nursing students were able to assist county medical officials and help demonstrate the county’s approach to planning, training and exercising POD sites in preparation for emergencies and natural disasters.

The on-going partnership with the County of Orange is part of the Stanbridge College REACH-Beyond the Classroom™ Service Learning initiative. Nursing students are able to apply their classroom and clinical lab skills to working with medical professionals and patients in real-world scenarios. This project is integrated into the Diploma in Vocational Nursing program’s curriculum at the college allowing all nursing student to participate in this county-wide event each year.
