Microsoft Management Summit

Microsoft Management Summit The Microsoft Management Summit (MMS-2011) wrapped up two weeks ago, but March 23rd’s keynote speech focused on System Center Configuration Manager’s (SCCM) expansion to management of non-Microsoft operating systems (Mac and Linux) as well as non-traditional devices, such as smart phones (including Windows, IOS, Symbian and Android devices), slates and tablets.  This represents an expansion of Microsoft’s control features to competitor’s devices and operating systems.  Will the need to support and compete simultaneously cause problems for Redmond?

Beta 2 of the Configuration Manager 2012 is available for download from Microsoft’s Technet Evaluation Center here.  It requires you login with a Microsoft Live ID (the same ID Stanbridge students use to access Online Learner) and the download itself is hefty:  1430.4MB.  SCCM requires a 64bit environment, Server 2008, SQL Server 2008 SP1 and SQL Reporting Services.
