How to Become a Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA): Video Tutorial

Interested in becoming a certified Physical Therapist Assistant? Not sure where to start? There are just a few simple steps you need to go through in order to become a licensed PTA.

First, find an accredited college that offers the Physical Therapist Assistant program. To help you decide which college will help you succeed, check out the college’s accreditation status, licensure exam preparation, and pass rate. After you graduate, you need to apply to take two examinations: the National Physical Therapy Examination and a state exam. You need to register with the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT) in order to take these exams. After graduation you can submit your application packet to the board of the state in which you are seeking licensure to practice. For example, if you’d like to work in California you’d submit to the Physical Therapy Board of California. Once approved, you can schedule your exams!PTA, Physical Therapist Assistant,

When you schedule your exam date you can register to take it at a Prometric Test Center. These tests are offered only four times a year so make sure to schedule appropriately. In about one or two days you will be able to receive your results online at www.FSBPT.org. Once the FSBPT has received your passing results they will automatically grant your PTA license.
