Social Media Cuts Healthcare Costs
According to the “Healthcare Performance Management in the Era of Twitter” report published by the Healthcare Performance Management Institute, social media initiatives are helping physicians, patients, and the medical community lower health care costs while improving patient care.
Social Media sites enable all doctors to communicate online to coordinate care for their patients. For some, like the Department of Veteran’s Affairs, the use of this initiative has cut their per-patient healthcare costs down to 30%! Experts say the cut in costs is due to the fact that patients are now more engaged, care is provided in a timely manner, and unnecessary tests and procedures are avoided because the online network enables doctors to access patient’s data more efficiently.
