Everyday Hero: “Stool Mama” Raises 130 Children in China
Xu Yuehua cares for children at the Xiangtan Social Welfare Institute in central China’s Hunan Province. The 55-year-old Xu, lost her legs in an accident three decades ago. She devotes herself to raising the children in the social welfare institute that sheltered her. In the past 37 years, Xu has raised over 130 children, who love to call her “Stool Mama” for the way she walks. She never regrets
her decision, saying “it is only her duty and pleasure to look after these children”.
